soufflé pancakes

soufflé pancakes began as a Japanese twist on the classic american pancakes.
the simple idea of whisking in extra air to create something lighter, softer and super fluffy!
what started as a small bubble tea shop at Guildford university has eventually become what you know zenchai as today.
every one of our pancakes is whipped, flipped and baked to perfection, greatness takes time which is why our pancakes need 15-20 minutes to craft.
but we promise, its worth the wait.

Last time I had soufflé pancakes was in Tokyo, and this one lives up to the hype! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and they’re always happy to give recommendations. I’m so glad this is on my doorstep – I’ll definitely be coming here often!

We went here today, what a lovely treat! The two people who worked there were very welcoming, and had such a great energy. We had one of the fruit teas and a soufflé pancake which were super delicious. We will definitely be back again!

i'm monz, the founder of zenchai
i started out in a completely different world. i studied accounting & finance at the university of surrey and went into finance afterwards, but i realised pretty quickly it just wasn’t for me. after being rejected from placements, taking a gap year, and working some truly awful hospitality jobs with even worse managers, i hit a point where i thought, this can’t be it, surely? i wanted to create something of my own. something bigger, with purpose, something i could wake up every day excited and driven to build.
i’ve always loved bubble tea and soufflé pancakes, so i begged the university of surrey for a tiny space and opened the smallest little takeaway stall you can imagine. it was humble, chaotic, and honestly one of the best decisions i ever made. that stall only offered bubble tea, but it sparked the idea of a proper sit-down café. somewhere warm, family-friendly, and a little different from anything else around. during covid, i was living in church crookham and realised fleet didn’t have much to offer for the younger gen-z crowd. so that little spark grew into zenchai. now here we are, still community-focused, still cosy, and finally building the kind of space i always wished existed. thank you so much for supporting us, it genuinely means the world. and if you ever see me in the café, please say hi! i’d love to get to know you.
